The Story of Y
There comes a point in life when you realize something:
The years didn’t slow down — you did.
I’m a little wiser now. A little grayer too. I’ve earned every scar on my body and every line on my face. Life has a way of doing that.
Years of being a dad, building businesses, working long days, carrying responsibilities, and losing people you love leave their mark. And while the responsibilities never truly disappear, life eventually gives you something you had far less of when you were younger:
Time.
Time to reflect.
Time to explore.
Time to create.
Time to live.
As an entrepreneur, contractor, and realtor, I’ve spent my life building — businesses, relationships, and opportunities. But beneath all of that, there has always been another side of me:
The outdoorsman.
The adventurer.
The side that feels most alive outside.
The early mornings by the ocean.
The long hikes through the woods.
The silence of a tree stand.
The cast of a line beneath low hanging limbs.
The peace, freedom, and challenge that only the outdoors can give you.
That side of me eventually led me to Alaska.
At first, the reason was simple — helping my son get settled in a new home and job.
What I didn’t expect was what Alaska would awaken in me.
Something about the wildness, the silence, and the sheer scale of God’s country made me feel alive again. Like a kid again.
And I wanted more.
So, I made a decision. An old, abandoned cabin deep in Alaska, became my next adventure.
People always ask me:
Why Alaska?
Why so far?
Why at your age?
Why the middle of nowhere?
Eventually, my answer became simple:
WHY THE HELL NOT?
Why not chase something that makes you feel alive?
Why not seek adventure?
Why not do the things that make life feel bigger, richer, and more meaningful?
That decision changed me.
It wasn’t just about saying yes to Alaska.
It was about saying yes to life.
To adventure.
To possibility.
To the parts of myself I still wanted to discover.
And from that leap, YNOT Alaska (YouTube) and Y-NOT-GO were born.
Maybe they started as personal ventures. But my hope is that they become something bigger — a reminder to people, young or old, that the fire inside them is still there.
Take the swim.
Take the hike.
Go for the bike ride.
Surf. Fish. Hunt. Paddle. Golf. Travel. Explore.
Or better yet — visit an old friend. Help a new one. Go make a difference in someone’s life.
Because Y-NOT-GO is more than apparel. It's a nod to who you are.
Staying in motion.
Staying curious.
Staying grateful.
And continuing to write a story worth telling once you are gone.
And if one of our hats, shirts, or hoodies becomes a small part of your story along the way, then we’ve succeeded and are grateful to be a small part.
Y-NOT-GO: For the ones still willing to. Cheers.
